Electrolysis is the permanent removal of unwanted hair that's done by sliding a tiny probe down the hair shaft to the root of the hair. Then, a quick pulse of current is applied to the root of the hair, resulting in coagulation of blood supply to the hair and destruction of the root.
Yes. The FDA recognizes Electrolysis as the only proven method of permanent hair removal. Once the blood supply to the hair has been destroyed at the root, hair will no longer grow from the hair follicle.
All areas of the body may be treated with the exceptions of inside of the nose and inside of the ears.
There may be a slight sensation of heat or a brief snap sensation where current is being applied, but this is temporary and is tolerable for most patients. Ask us about pre-treatment numbing.
In the hands of your well trained Electrologist at The Bearded Lady, there is minimal risk of damage to your skin.
Electrolysis is the only FDA recognized method for permanent hair REMOVAL, as opposed to laser, which offers permanent hair REDUCTION. Laser treatments are only available for lighter skin types and darker hair types, whereas, Electrolysis is suitable for everyone!
Based on your consultation with your Electrologist, a custom treatment plan will be designed that addresses your specific hair removal needs. Factors such as hirsutism, or excessive hair growth, can range from fine light vellus hair, to dark, coarse hair on the face and body. When breaking down the hair growth cells on deep, coarse hair, they may require more treatments than on normal hair. Multiple treatments will be required to achieve optimum results and regrowth is expected between visits.
Side effects after treatment are usually minimal. Since Electrolysis destroys the papilla of a hair (hair root), it is normal to experience temporary mild to moderate redness and/or mild swelling. In most individuals, this will disappear within a few hours. Some patients also experience a temporary histamine reaction, resulting in very small hives where the hair was removed. This is all very normal and a part of the process. We will give you custom post-treatment care instructions during your consultation as well.
Electrolysis costs compare favorably to other hair removal methods, including laser hair reduction. When considering the long-term results of permanent hair removal with Electrolysis, and the recurring life long commitment to touch up treatments required with other methods, Electrolysis is the most cost-effective solution.
