Waxing - Frequently Asked Questions

Leg Wax

Do waxing treatments hurt?

Waxing is most uncomfortable the first time. There are two reasons for this:

  • We are removing a lot of coarse, deep rooted hair during the first visit – especially if you’ve been previously shaving. With repeat visits (even as soon as your very next visit), discomfort from waxing is greatly decreased. With continued monthly visits, the roots do not have time to become mature and therefor are more cooperative.
  • It is shocking to the body to have dense amounts of hair pulled out by the root at once. With frequent visits, each time there will be less hair to remove, thus less pain.

Realistically yes, your first waxing treatment will be uncomfortable, and it will take the longest time for us to complete. At each visit we will pull out all of the stops to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible. Remember, each waxing appointment gets better, we promise.

How long does my hair have to be?

The hair being waxed should be 1/4 to 1/2 inch long, about the length of a grain of rice.

If you can easily pinch the hair, you’re ready for your next wax. We recommend coming in about every 4 weeks for Brazilian waxes, as this is right before the hair is beginning to mature again.

Is home care necessary?

Absolutely! Home care is a must to ensure the best results. Start your home care the day following your waxing service. Apply witch hazel or our favorite serum, PFB Vanish, daily or every other day between appointments, even if slight skin irritation is present. We also recommend exfoliating the skin with a shower mitt 2x weekly between appointments. Ask us for a complimentary mitt at your next wax. For the next 24 hours after your appointment, do not get sweaty. No working out, saunas, pools, sun, sex, etc.

Will my skin experience a reaction?

Possibly. The upper lip, back, and chest are all areas that are prone to breakouts after waxing. Also, if you have a tendency towards ingrown hairs and irritation from shaving, you are more likely to have the same reaction with waxing, although this is decreased. To minimize skin reactions, you MUST use proper home care and it is recommended to get waxed on a regular schedule. Come in every 4 weeks, exfoliate your skin and use your serum/moisturizer. All of this together will help set you up for waxing success. Also, don't forget to prebook your next appointment to stay on schedule.

Is waxing sanitary?

Wax in general is antibacterial, simply because there is zero water in our wax products. Bacteria needs moisture to grow. We also practice smart, sanitary waxing protocols, and take universal precautions. We perform all services using single use gloves, disposable single use wax sticks, never double dip, disinfect and sterilize all tools between clients, use EPA hospital grade disinfectants, and more.

Why wax?

Waxing is a form of hair removal that removes the entire hair from the hair follicle, unlike shaving, Nair cream, or clippers, which bluntly cut the hair at the surface of the skin. Warm wax is applied to the skin and “shrink-wraps” around the hair follicle, allowing the hair to be pulled from the root. Because the entire hair is removed, the skin is left very smooth and outlasts any other form of hair removal. You're going to love your results!

What do I wear to my waxing appointment?

We suggest wearing loose clothing such as sweatpants, that means no leggings! The skin is usually sensitive post waxing, and you won’t want to wear anything that rubs. You will not leave in discomfort perse, but expect the waxed area to be sensitive or to feel like a mild sunburn.

Will I be completely smooth with my first wax?

Waxing is like working out at the gym. You don’t automatically lose 10lbs on your first visit, right? It’s the same thing with waxing. You will not get the best wax until about your 3rd wax. This is due to the 3 phases of hair growth. So, 3 growth phases + 3 waxes one month apart = the best wax from there on out.

What kind of wax do you use?

Only the best, of course! We have a variety of low temperature melting hard and soft waxes to choose from. This allows us to customize your wax experience based on hair texture, previous hair removal methods, client preference, and skin sensitivity.
