Waxing is most uncomfortable the first time. There are two reasons for this:
Realistically yes, your first waxing treatment will be uncomfortable, and it will take the longest time for us to complete. At each visit we will pull out all of the stops to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible. Remember, each waxing appointment gets better, we promise.
The hair being waxed should be 1/4 to 1/2 inch long, about the length of a grain of rice.
If you can easily pinch the hair, you’re ready for your next wax. We recommend coming in about every 4 weeks for Brazilian waxes, as this is right before the hair is beginning to mature again.
Absolutely! Home care is a must to ensure the best results. Start your home care the day following your waxing service. Apply witch hazel or our favorite serum, PFB Vanish, daily or every other day between appointments, even if slight skin irritation is present. We also recommend exfoliating the skin with a shower mitt 2x weekly between appointments. Ask us for a complimentary mitt at your next wax. For the next 24 hours after your appointment, do not get sweaty. No working out, saunas, pools, sun, sex, etc.
Possibly. The upper lip, back, and chest are all areas that are prone to breakouts after waxing. Also, if you have a tendency towards ingrown hairs and irritation from shaving, you are more likely to have the same reaction with waxing, although this is decreased. To minimize skin reactions, you MUST use proper home care and it is recommended to get waxed on a regular schedule. Come in every 4 weeks, exfoliate your skin and use your serum/moisturizer. All of this together will help set you up for waxing success. Also, don't forget to prebook your next appointment to stay on schedule.
Wax in general is antibacterial, simply because there is zero water in our wax products. Bacteria needs moisture to grow. We also practice smart, sanitary waxing protocols, and take universal precautions. We perform all services using single use gloves, disposable single use wax sticks, never double dip, disinfect and sterilize all tools between clients, use EPA hospital grade disinfectants, and more.
Waxing is a form of hair removal that removes the entire hair from the hair follicle, unlike shaving, Nair cream, or clippers, which bluntly cut the hair at the surface of the skin. Warm wax is applied to the skin and “shrink-wraps” around the hair follicle, allowing the hair to be pulled from the root. Because the entire hair is removed, the skin is left very smooth and outlasts any other form of hair removal. You're going to love your results!
We suggest wearing loose clothing such as sweatpants, that means no leggings! The skin is usually sensitive post waxing, and you won’t want to wear anything that rubs. You will not leave in discomfort perse, but expect the waxed area to be sensitive or to feel like a mild sunburn.
Waxing is like working out at the gym. You don’t automatically lose 10lbs on your first visit, right? It’s the same thing with waxing. You will not get the best wax until about your 3rd wax. This is due to the 3 phases of hair growth. So, 3 growth phases + 3 waxes one month apart = the best wax from there on out.
Only the best, of course! We have a variety of low temperature melting hard and soft waxes to choose from. This allows us to customize your wax experience based on hair texture, previous hair removal methods, client preference, and skin sensitivity.
A Brazilian is a bikini line wax on steroids! A Brazilian wax is the complete removal of pubic hair, from the front side and butt crack too! You decide if you want to go completely bare or if you would like to keep a small landing strip, we can do that too! A Brazilian wax should take around 30 minutes.
During a Manzilian wax, we remove all of the hair from the male bikini area, the scrotum, and the butt crack. The Manzilian does not include the glutes, but will happily add that to your service if you wish! Check out our waxing service menu.
Well, yes. But you will only need to undress from the waist down (including your underwear). We know it may be a little unnerving for you. You’ve never met us before, your goods are hanging out and so on. Trust us, we do this ALL day long and it's just a body part to us.
Yes! Just know that you will be more sensitive during your wax and after as well.
Before your initial service, you will complete an intake consult form. Please advise your Esthetician of any medical or skin conditions and also if you are taking any medications prescribed by a doctor such as Retin-A or Accutane. Current users of Retin-A, Renova, or Differin are not to receive facial waxing, as these medications weaken the skin. Because of this, tearing of the skin may occur when the wax is removed. If you are taking Accutane or have taken this medication within a year of your scheduled wax, we can unfortunately not wax you due to extreme skin sensitivity and fragility.
Yes! Please do not cancel your appointment if you are on your menstrual cycle. We kindly ask that you insert a tampon prior to your appointment for sanitary reasons, and you’re good to go. Take note, there are differing opinions as to whether or not waxing hurts more on your cycle. Some do believe the pain is worse while others experience no changes in discomfort at all.
We can most definitely work around your piercing if you aren’t able to remove it prior to your waxing appointment. The cool thing about our wax is that it only adheres to hair. We can also place a small amount of skin oil on your piercing to add a little extra protection.
We recommend using an ingrown hair serum daily to every other day in between your wax appointments. This helps to exfoliate dead skin which in turn helps prevent hair from becoming trapped under the skin. Our serum of choice is called PFB Vanish roll-on. We have this for purchase at The Bearded Lady. This serum not only helps prevent ingrowns, but treats current ingrowns to help speed healing, and also brightens dark marks from previous ingrowns. It's a roll-on serum which makes it very convenient to use. If you have ingrowns at your wax appointment, we are happy to extract them and may recommend upgrading your wax experience to our Premium Brazilian, which includes high frequency light treatment to kill bacteria, and an in-house application of PFB immediately post treatment. This will help set you up for success once you leave.
